Installation

Installation Requirements

To use the MAMP, your system must meet the following requirements

  • Operating system: macOS Sierra 10.12 or higher
  • A user account that belongs to the Admin group. Go to “System Preferences… > Users & Groups” to confirm this.

New Installation

  1. Download “MAMP & MAMP PRO” from www.mamp.info.
  2. Double click on the file “MAMP_MAMP_PRO_6.x.pkg” in your download folder.
  3. The system installer will guide you through the installation process.

Note: You need administrator permissions to install MAMP!

This installer will install the “MAMP” folder and the “MAMP PRO” application in the “Applications” directory. Do not move or rename the MAMP folder.

Upgrading from MAMP 5

If the installer detects an existing installation, it will preserve the data in “/Applications/MAMP/htdocs” and “/Applications/MAMP/conf/ssl”, copy existing databases to the new installation, and rename the old “MAMP” folder.

Confirm that all data has been transferred correctly before starting MAMP. Your /Applications/MAMP_current_date folder can now be deleted. You may want to keep it so that you can revert to your original setup.

Upgrading from MAMP 4

If the installer detects an existing installation, it will preserve the data in “/Applications/MAMP/htdocs” and “/Applications/MAMP/conf/ssl”, copy existing databases to the new installation, and rename the old “MAMP” folder.

If you have not previously upgraded your database files to MySQL 5.7, you will be prompted to do so during the installation and at server startup. It is recommended that you upgrade your database files to MySQL 5.7 when you start your servers in MAMP.

MySQL upgrade notification during installation

Before launching MAMP, make sure all data has been transferred correctly. Your /Applications/MAMP_current_date folder can now be deleted. However, you may wish to keep it so that you can revert to your original setup.

Upgrading Your Database Data

The first time you start your servers in MAMP, you will be prompted to upgrade your database data to MySQL 5.7. Click OK to continue with the database upgrade.

Uninstall

To uninstall MAMP, simply delete the MAMP directory and everything will return to its original state. MAMP does not change anything in the normal MacOS.

If you have MAMP Cloud Functions installed, you will also need to remove your “/Library/Application Support/appsolute/MAMP” directory.

If you also used MAMP PRO, use the MAMP PRO Uninstaller to remove it.
