DNS Setup

To access the hosts configured with NAMO, you must enter the IP address of the NAMO DNS server in the network settings of your devices that you want to use to access the hosts configured with NAMO. To view the IP address of the NAMO DNS server, select “DNS Server IP Address” from the Help menu. The dialog box displays IPv4, IPv6 or IPv4 & IPv6 (as shown in the following image) depending on the preferences (Advanced) selected.

Copy the IP address or send it to your corresponding device via email or other service using the share button.

Configuration on different platforms

iOS

  • Open the app Settings on your iOS device.
  • Select “Wi-Fi”.
  • Tap the “i” button to the right of the selected Wi-Fi network.
  • Scroll to the DNS area and tap Configure DNS.
  • Select “Manual”.
  • Write down the IP address(es) of your DNS Server(s).
  • Delete all existing DNS Server entries by tapping the red minus button.
  • Enter the IP address of the DNS Server previously determined via NAMO.
  • In the same way, add the previously noted IP addresses of your DNS Server(s).
  • Tap on “Save”.
  • Now you should be able to access your hosts with Safari, Chrome, or another browser on your iOS device.

macOS

  • Open System Preferences on your Mac.
  • Select Network.
  • Select the first network in the list and click the “Advanced…” button.
  • In the tab bar, select DNS.
  • Write down the IP address(es) of your DNS Server(s).
  • Delete all existing DNS Server entries by selecting them and clicking the minus button. This is only possible if you have entered the existing entries manually. Default entries that have been entered automatically (DHCP) cannot be removed manually. Default entries are automatically removed when a new entry is added manually.
  • Click the plus button and enter the IP address of the DNS server previously determined via NAMO.
  • In the same way, add the previously noted IP addresses of your DNS Server(s).
  • Click the “OK” button.
  • Click on the “Apply” button.
  • Now you should be able to access your hosts with Safari, Chrome, or another browser on your Mac.

Android

  • Android 8
    • Open the “Settings” on your device.
    • Tap on “Connections”.
    • Tap on “Wi-Fi”.
    • Tap and hold the Wi-Fi you want to change.
    • Tap on “Manage network settings”.
    • Activate the “Show advanced options” option.
    • Tap on “IP settings”.
    • Tap on the “Static” entry.
    • Make a note of the IP addresses entered in the DNS 1 field.
    • Enter the IP address of the DNS server previously determined via NAMO in the “DNS 1” field.
    • Enter the previously noted IP address (from “DNS 1”) in the “DNS 2” field.
    • Tap on “SAVE”.
  • Android 9 and later
    • Open the “Settings” on your device.
    • Tap on “Network & Internet”.
    • Tap on “WLAN”.
    • Connected network
      • Tap the gear icon of your current network and then tap the pen icon.
    • Not connected network
      • Tap and hold the WLAN you want to change.
      • Tap Change Network.
    • Tap Advanced Options.
    • Tap on “IP settings”.
    • Tap on the “Static” entry.
    • Write down the IP addresses of the DNS 1 field.
    • Enter the IP address of the DNS Server previously determined via NAMO in the “DNS 1” field.
    • Enter the previously noted IP address (from “DNS 1”) in the “DNS 2” field.
    • Tap on “Save”.

Windows

  • Windows 10
    • Open the “Settings”.
    • Click on “Network & Internet”.
    • Click “Status”.
    • In the “Change your network settings” section, click “Change adapter options”.
    • Right-click the network interface connected to the Internet and select “Status” from the context menu.
    • Click the “Details…” button.
    • Write down the the IP address entered for “IPv4 DNS Server”.
    • Click on the “Close” button.
    • Click on the “Properties” button.
    • Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” from the list.
    • Click the “Properties” button.
    • Click the “Use the following DNS server addresses:” option.
    • Under “Preferred DNS server:”, enter the IP previously specified via NAMO.
    • Under “Alternative DNS Server:”, enter the IP address previously noted in the “IPv4 DNS Server” field.
    • Click the “OK” button.
    • Now you should be able to access your hosts from any browser on your Windows 10 computer.
  • Windows 7
    • Open the “Control Panel”.
    • Click on “Network & Sharing Center”.
    • In the left pane, click “Change adapter settings”.
    • Right-click the network interface connected to the Internet and select “Status” from the context menu.
    • Click the “Details…” button.
    • Write down the the IP address entered for “IPv4 DNS Server”.
    • Click on the “Close” button.
    • Click on the “Properties” button.
    • Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” from the list.
    • Click the “Properties” button.
    • Click the “Use the following DNS server addresses:” option.
    • Under “Preferred DNS server:”, enter the IP previously specified via NAMO.
    • Under “Alternative DNS Server:”, enter the IP address previously noted in the “IPv4 DNS Server” field.
    • Click the “OK” button.
    • Now you should be able to access your hosts from any browser on your Windows 10 computer.
